I don’t even know whether to classify this as classism, the dehumanizing effect of capitalism, or simply “look at this fucking asshole”. The most appropriate is most likely “I’m a rich white guy; nobody’s suffering matters more than my money” - a brief synopsis of a good 65/70 % of the world’s problems.
Look at white supremacy.
And understand that it has no concept of how to understand our humanity
I dont usually write my opinion on these sorts of things, but I am with this one.
White privilege is the politically correct term =P
but on a serious note, you are right. As a white male, I will NEVER know what it is like to be profiled, to be followed in a store because someone sees the color of my skin and assumes that I am going to be doing something bad, I wont be questioned for going somewhere normal, and I dont have to worry about these things.
I recently went to a racial reconciliation seminar in AZ. What I learned that is that I cant deny my white privilege. It is there. It wont go away if I try to deny it because it is a physical characteristic that holds a lot of weight. So what I need to do is own up to my white privilege and be the voice for People of Color when they do not have the chance to use their voice or if their voice is not being heard. I am not saying that PoC NEED help. They have gotten this far in modern society without major help from white people. But, it is a human decency to try and help others, especially when the cause is just.
